Lois Bowen Holmes, age 99, of the Langdale community, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at the EAMC Lanier Nursing Home.

Mrs. Holmes was born in Roanoke, Alabama on July 25, 1921, to the late Louis and Dora Rowe Bowen.  Lois was the last surviving child of ten children.  Her family soon relocated to north Alabama where she was raised in Morgan County, Alabama.

In addition to her parents and siblings, Lois was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years Ellsworth St. Clair Holmes and her daughter Clairine Holmes and her son Jimmy Holmes.

Mrs. Holmes loved her Langdale community.  She worked for West Point Pepperell in the Langdale Mill until her retirement. She was a member of the Langdale Congregational Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir.  She served on numerous committees and boards.  She truly loved her church.

In her quiet time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and making quilts.  She also enjoyed her garden and the fruits of her labor with her fresh strawberries and beautiful flowers.

She was a wonderful and supportive mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great grandmother.   She made it a priority to attend all football games, basketball games, baseball games, band competitions, swim meets, recitals, and plays that she could.  Lois also showed her young and spirited side with amusing the children and grands by climbing trees, making bunny hats, and carving whistles from tree bark.

She is survived by her children, Barry (Cheryl) Holmes, Montgomery, Lolita (Hal) Brim, Newnan, GA.; son-in-law, Jim Seip; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. EST at Langdale Cemetery with the Reverend Barry Holmes officiating.  Mrs. Holmes will lie in state at the funeral home Friday evening from 5:00 P.M. EST until 7:00 P.M. EST where you may come by and pay your respects.  Due to the social gathering restrictions, masks and social distancing will be required at the funeral home and service.
