The Chambers County School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Mrs. LaKeyda Burnett as the system’s new Director of Federal Programs. Mrs. Burnett succeeds Dr. Alicia Lyles who has resigned to accept a similar position with Eufaula City Schools.
Dr. Lyles submitted her resignation two weeks ago after eight years of service with the Chambers County School District as a former counselor at LaFayette H.S. and Federal Programs Director with the Board of Education. Dr. Lyles final day with the Chambers County School System will be June 1st.
Mrs. Burnett is an experienced educator who has served the children of Chambers County as Principal at Eastside Elementary School in LaFayette since 2014. Mrs. Burnett’s success as Principal at Eastside made her the obvious choice for promotion to the systems Director of Federal Programs.
Mrs. Burnett noted she was honored to serve as Eastside’s Principal for the last seven years working closely with the staff and families to ensure that “every child matters, every single day!” Chambers County Schools Superintendent, Casey Chambley noted that Eastside Elementary School has shined under the leadership of Mrs. Burnett. Chambley added “her commitment to team building is a big part of the success at Eastside where she collaborated with both parents and staff to promote student achievement.”
Prior to joining the system as Principal at Eastside in 2014, Mrs. Burnett served as an Assistant Principal with Eufaula City Schools. Her classroom experience included roles as an instructional coach and classroom teacher from grades K5-3rd in the Opelika City Schools system where she started her career in 1998.
Mrs. Burnett earned her B.S. degree in Elementary Education at Tuskegee University and later went on to secure both her M.S. in elementary education and her Ed.S in Educational Leadership from Troy University. The Chambers County School District is fortunate to have an experienced and motivated educator such as Mrs. LaKeyda Burnett ready and willing to take on the challenge as our new Director of Federal Programs! Mrs. Burnett is the proud Mother of two children with her son, Taviyor, a rising junior at Alabama A&M University and a daughter, London who is a freshman at LaFayette High School.
