Allyson Langley Matthew Named New Eastside Elementary School PrincipalMay 7, 2021
The Chambers County School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Mrs. Allyson Langley Matthews as the system’s new Principal at Eastside Elementary School in LaFayette. Mrs. Matthews succeeds Mrs. LaKeydaBurnett who was promoted to the systems position as Director of Federal Programs to replace Dr. Alicia Lyles.
Mrs. Burnett indicated an interest in the posted Director of Federal Programs position and was named Dr. Lyles successor on May 6th by the board. Mrs. Matthews was one of numerous applicants that interviewed for an elementary principal’s vacancy with the district.
Mrs. Matthews returns to the Chambers County School District from her current position at W.O. Lance Elementary School in Lanett where she has served as Assistant Principal. She is a veteran educator with 24 plus years of experience.
Mrs. Matthews has a career of service working with the children across Chambers County with stints in the Chambers County School District, Lanett City Schools and Springwood School. She formerly taught for the CCSD as a science teacher at LaFayette H.S. from 2014-2016. In 2016, she moved to her existing role as Assistant Principal at W.O. Lance Elementary School in Lanett where she has served since.
Mrs. Matthews development included active roles on the building leadership teams at both W.O. Lance Elementary as well as at LaFayette H.S. Her core beliefs in education are based on the concept that all children can learn when provided with the environment, motivation and tools needed to grow. She is committed to working closely with both staff and parents alike to promote student achievement no matter the challenges. She completed Cognia School Improvement Training in the fall of 2020 and has training in both LETRS and SPIRE to promote literacy among her students. Matthews is eager for the challenge to build on the successes at Eastside with both staff and students alike.
Superintendent, Casey Chambley noted that Mrs. Matthews passion for student success will make her a great addition as the next principal at Eastside Elementary School. Chambley added “her former experience in the district will aid her transition in working with closely with current staff to promote student future success for our students.” Prior to her current role as Assistant Principal at W.O. Lance in Lanett, Mrs. Matthews taught science at LaFaytte H.S. for two years, and worked as both a K-12 administrator and teacher at Springwood from 1994 to 2014. She also formerly taught math for the Troup County School System in LaGrange, GA.
Mrs. Matthews earned her B.S. degree in Chemistry from LaGrange College in 1987 and later a class B science certificate from UAB in 1989. Later in 2016, Mrs. Matthews secured her M.A. in Instructional Leadership from Jacksonville State University. Mrs. Matthews is a native of Chambers County and resides in Lanett with her husband, Richard. The Matthews have three daughters, Carrie Houston, Langley Marie, and Emily Jo.
